Gianna has been drawing, painting and exploring
ancient cultures for as long as she can remember. she had always
found much joy in creating with her hands. In 1989, while leafing
through an adult education catalog her eyes rested on the word "Silversmithing" and
from that moment on her life was never the same. In this medium,
she could manifest, into form, those ideas that she could not express
using other materials.
Gianna's designs in metal are inspired by nature, ancient cultures
and the human spirit, reflecting our connection to all beings.
Her goal is to create pieces that evoke a feeling of joy and recognition
and carry a spirit of care and loving kindness.
Gianna's unique silver jewelry starts out simply ~ usually with
a sheet of silver. She draws her design on the metal, cuts it out,
then fuses it to another layer of silver. Through this process
the silver develops texture. She then oxidizes parts of the piece
to accentuate the design. The fusing and oxidizing are relatively
unpredictable processes, culminating in a totally unique finished
piece. Some of the themes that run through her work include hands,
hearts, spirals, petroglyphs, birds and animals.
While mostly focusing on creating jewelry, she loves to play with
function and form in her silver, copper and brass bookmarkers,
and copper books. She also enjoys the challenge of working with
people who request custom pieces, taking an idea and working together
to bring it to physical form.
