Ann
Brody works with porcelain, a material that’s extremely lightweight,
yet surprisingly durable when fired and glazed. In designing her
jewelry, she finds inspiration from many cultures. The bamboo pattern,
one of her best sellers, is adapted from an embroidered detail
on a Chinese robe at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
To preserve
memories of a trip to New Mexico, Ann recreates Native American
rock paintings on other pieces of jewelry. Sometimes the inspiration
is very close to home—Ann has several charming pins based
on sketches of her white cat. She also offers matte finish items
in a range of soft shades of blue and mauve. Her newest line of
jewelry is porcelain glazed with 22-caret gold. Her collection
at Clever Hand includes magnetic and clip earrings for non-pierced
ears.
