Batik
is usually associated with abstract patterns on Indonesian textiles.
Gunvor Lynch uses this ancient wax-resist dyeing technique to create
realistically colored portraits of birds, wildflowers, fish and
sailboats. She discovered batik in Denmark, her mother’s
native country, and taught herself the craft while raising seven
children. Both the Massachusetts Audubon Society and the Massachusetts
Horticultural Society have sold her work. Although her subject
matter includes exotic tropical birds, the most popular are the
most familiar, such as loons, shorebirds and cardinals. Each of
her pictures is an original, attractively matted and framed.
Gunny Lynch lives in Framingham and has a beach cottage in Scituate, Massachusetts.
She has been associated with the Clever Hand for more than 30 years. |
